<description>While I totally agree with using Social Network media to promote restaurants, the problem is more practical than theoretical.

Restaurateurs are very busy people (I know, I used to own a restaurant) and it takes a lot of time and effort to maintain an active presence in all those sites suggested by Scott. I also question the real effectiveness (other than being cool and perhaps attract a couple of enthusiasts) of using Facebook or Linkedin to promote restaurants.

As an active user of both sites, I would never think about going to a restaurant just because they announce there.

Yelp, CitySearch, Restaurant.com and Zagat are more appropriate ways for people to select restaurants based on customer’s reviews and feedback.

However, there is not much than a restaurateur can do to influence the customer’s comments… other than offer an impeccable service, excellent food and treat their clients like kings or queens.

This is the real deal. If you make sure that all your clients leave your restaurant happy, all their comments will be positive and will attract other customers who will read glowing reviews about your place.

So in conclusion, use Social Media to promote your place (by all means) but above all, offer an incredible eating experience to your clients.

This is the best way to promote your business.

Happy Holidays to all of you,
Jose L Riesco
